Hospitality General Manager (Story of Emily Visitor Attraction, UK)

The Story of Emily visitor attraction in St Ive, near Liskeard, Cornwall (UK), is the latest addition to the Babylonstoren (South Africa) and The Newt (London, Somerset) teams. This new entity has an exciting opportunity for a Hospitality GM. The ideal incumbent has a passion for leading teams and taking initiative within the hospitality sector. The role includes overseeing the restaurant and kitchen garden, as well as the visitor attraction shop and museum experience.

Requirements

  • A qualification in hospitality management or business management.
  • Relevant experience in restaurant management.
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a team.
  • Experience of financial management.
  • A passionate individual with the ability to maintain high standards under pressure.
  • Interest in South African history will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Building, leading and managing a team of employees who will facilitate visitor attractions across various departments (restaurant, exhibitions and maintenance).
  • Building on employee strengths and positioning teams accordingly.
  • Creating and facilitating a unique guest experience.
  • Managing the museum’s operations and budget.
  • Upkeep of all museum installations, of which some could be technically complex.
  • Managing site maintenance, including gardens and grounds.
  • Defining long-term goals, developing business models, and implementing such plans.
  • Managing suppliers and building strong community relations.
  • Managing the museum’s marketing, public relations, and community engagement.
