Bees, Chamomile & Koekoeke
September 7th, 2012When you come for a walk in our garden this weekend …..
…do peep over the door into the walled bee garden. The hives amongst the flowering almond trees may look like a peaceful scene, but there is a special spring energy buzzing about, and there is increased activity from our Cape honey bees. The warmer weather, the abundance of blossoms, and the seemingly endless supply of pollen and nectar – it’s heaven for a bee.
If all that energy has tired you out, take a blissful moment and lie back to test the softness of the chamomile lawns. After the winter rains they are extra lush, and particularly green and inviting. The indigenous chamomile Lasiospermum bipinatum pictured above is shooting thousands of white daisy flowers, creating a beautiful meadow, surrounded by nectarine blossoms.
Perhaps you’ll doze off a bit, until you’re woken by a crowing sound. Be sure to visit our rather loud new Potch Koekoek cock, where you’ll see him walking proudly surrounded by his hens between the stone fruit trees.
Looking forward to your visit! Springtime at Babylonstoren is very special.
