Stay warm this weekend! Glühwein Recipe
August 10th, 2012There’s some pretty icy weather forecast for the Western Cape this weekend, so we can’t think of anything more appropriate than making a big pot of Gluhwein to ward off the chills.
- 750ml Red Wine (Try our Babel or Shiraz)
- 250ml Water
- 125ml Sugar
- 1 Pinch Cloves
- 2 Cinnamon sticks
- 1 Lemon or Orange, sliced
- 30ml Lemon juice
Directions
- Mix the water, sugar, citrus slices and spices in a large pot.
- Place on a warm stove, to dissolve the sugar, then bring the syrup boil for 5 minutes to develop aspicy flavour.
- Add the red wine and lemon juice, and heat until just below boiling point.
Enjoy your Gluhwein warm in a glass with friends on a rainy day. And if you’re not up to making your own, we are serving it in Babel this weekend, made from our own red wine!
