Beezantium Host

Babylonstoren is looking for a museum host to join the garden team at the brand-new Beezantium experience. The Beezantium will be a small, interactive museum that offers visitors a glimpse into the fascinating life of bees. In addition, guests will be able to see how the honey extraction process works. We are looking for an engaging and sociable host to welcome visitors to the museum and to demonstrate the honey extraction process.

Requirements

  • A completed National Senior Certificate qualification (Grade 12 / matric).
  • A degree or diploma in tourism studies or entomology, or proven knowledge of beekeeping, is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an outgoing personality, and the ability to engage with children.
  • A passion for bees and beekeeping.
  • A keen eye for neatness and cleanliness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Afrikaans and English.
  • Proactive, reliable, and able to work effectively as part of a small team.

Responsibilities

  • Hosting visitors: Welcome visitors to the Beezantium museum, explain and manage the audio guide and technological exhibits, and answer visitors’ questions.
  • Exhibit upkeep: Monitor the Beezantium exhibits for functionality and cleanliness, report any technical issues to the IT department, and clean the space according to cleaning schedule.
  • Honey extraction: Communicate regularly with suppliers for honey supers; weigh supers for honey calculations; maintain records for invoicing purposes; prepare supers for extraction; operate and supervise the honey extraction machine; clean the extractor and its facility; collect and distribute honey internally; and engage with visitors about the honey extraction process and equipment.
