A Bee’s Eye View at Babylonstoren
01 November 2025
In celebration of Garden Town Stellenbosch, Babylonstoren is hosting a series of three special talks & tours led by our gardening and insect specialists - R500 per person
R 500 per person.

Only 20 places available
During the warmer seasons the garden is buzzing with Cape honeybees, hard at work foraging for pollen and nectar. They are the VIPs in the Babylonstoren garden, playing a key role in pollinating many of our garden fruits, herbs and vegetables.
This interactive talk starts with a guided walk through the garden to explore the bees’ favourite spots, from nectar-filled annual flowers to pollen-rich trees. We’ll next invite you to explore the intricate connections between bees, the land and us humans in the visiting Byzantium from our sister estate The Newt in Somerset. Finally, you’ll have the opportunity to don a beekeeping suit and discover a collection of diverse beehives. Our beekeeper, Arné Stander, will share the story of the indigenous Cape honeybee and explain the basics of beekeeping.
Please bring along your sun hat for the garden walk and closed shoes such as gumboots or wellies or high-ankle hiking boots for the practical session with beekeeping suits.
Steaming coffee from the Farm Shop is served upon arrival.
