The Official Rosé of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024

Rooted in the classic dry Provençal style with a delicately fruity flavour profile, Babylonstoren Mourvèdre Rosé 2024 has notes of crushed pomegranate, the sweet freshness of watermelon and a subtle punch of acidity.

MOMENTS IN THE GARDEN

The Babylonstoren garden, an alcove of ever-changing moments, guided by the symphony of the seasons, is one of only two Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Partner Gardens in Africa.

It is surrounded by a working fruit and wine farm in the Franschhoek Valley, complete with a luxury hotel, spa, winery, farm-to-fork restaurants, and farm shops alongside the garden of wonderment and diversity.

It tells the story of the Winelands and its people, their Cape Dutch heritage and the sheer joy of gardening.

MOMENTS IN THE VINEYARD

The 2024 Mourvèdre Rosé is the result of a heated summer romance. A hot season moved the cellar team to pick the mourvèdre block in the last weeks of January already – almost a month earlier than previous years.

In the cellar, the pace persisted. Skin contact was kept to a fleeting touch to ensure only the slightest blush of colour from the destemmed berries. The new wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks for three weeks, with one month of ageing on the fine lees. Then bottling, a few weeks before the darling was whisked away by boat to the UK to take her place of honour alongside the Chelsea blooms.

"Our unique location on the southernmost tip of the African continent means we have one of the earliest rosés to be harvested and bottled in the southern hemisphere. Guests at the Chelsea Show are the first to taste this brand-new vintage."

"We’d like visitors to ground themselves again. To enjoy the mountains all around as much as we do, pick their own healthy fruit and veg, play pétanque, swim in the farm dam, enjoy an hour in the spa, eat a simple, fresh dish at one of the restaurants, walk up the conical Babylonstoren hill, await sunset with a glass of wine in hand, and then slip in between sheets of crisp linen and drift away ... more or less."
