A Boland staple in winter, a bottle of gleaming guavas could be found in any self-respecting pantry on any farmstead. Today still, the deliciousness of sweet, preserved guava is undeniable – and even more so if it’s homemade with care. Join us in the Soetmelksvlei kitchen as we celebrate the bounty of guavas in the heart of winter.

Following a short ride along the picturesque slopes of Simonsberg, we’ll descend towards the historical farmyard of Soetmelksvlei, which represents a time when life was simpler, and craftsmanship was treasured. Here, farm foodie Louzel Steyn will teach guests the basics of preserving your own guavas in a variety of ways.

After a hands-on morning, we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch at the Old Stables Restaurant before heading back to Babylonstoren.
