THE BYZANTIUM

The Byzantium celebrates the extraordinary world of bees. On loan from our sister estate, The Newt in Somerset, this interactive exhibition explores the deep connection between bees, the land and humankind.

Tucked behind the Moestuin at the far end of the garden, the Byzantium invites visitors to step inside the hive mind and see the world as a honeybee does. It’s also home to our bee workshops, with Babylonstoren honey and other bee treasures available for purchase. A fascinating adventure for young and old alike.

A space to explore and reflect

The Byzantium blends design and discovery. Visitors can move at their own pace with state-of-the-art audio guides that share fascinating facts about bee behaviour, communication and hive structure.

For those eager to go further, Babylonstoren offers beekeeping workshops led by Stander. Guests don protective suits for a hands-on hive experience that brings the world of bees alive.

“More than an exhibit, this is a space for learning about and connecting with the smallest yet most powerful workers on earth,” says Stander.
